Job shadowing is a great way to learn about a potential career. Students can contact an individial or business to set up a convienient time to shadow someone. Just observing a professional for a few hours can help you understand what the job is really like.

Job shadowing helps you:

• decide if you would enjoy working in that career field

• undertand the skills you need to be successful in that career field

• plan your classes/education

• plan other work or volunteer experiences

• develop contacts in your potential career field

• learn other local information about salary, benefits, job outlook, etc.

Before you job shadow, find out what to wear and what you are allowed do. Some workplaces may only let you observe while others will let you perform certain tasks.
