CREDITS

LaRue County High School is on a six period day. Students have the opportunity to take at least 24 credits throughout their high school career.* In order to graduate, students must have a minimum of 22 credits.

GRADES & ATTENDANCE

LaRue County High School uses Infinite Campus. Parents may request access to IC Parent Portal in order to monitor their child's grades and attendance. Please contact Mrs. Carla Graham for more information.

DUAL CREDIT

Students in grades 9-12 may take dual credit courses. LaRue County High School currently partners with Campbellsville University, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Gateway Community and Technical College, Murray State University, Lindsey Wilson College, the University of Louisville, and Western Kentucky University. Students must meet college requirements in order to take advantage of this great opportunity. Students who are interested should take the ACT or a placement exam. Placement exams are offered at the ECTC assessment center.

College courses are listed with 3-4 capital letters followed by a number. If a student's schedule says digital literacy, then he/she is not in a dual credit course. The dual credit course is listed as CIT 105, etc.

Beginning their junior year, students may use dual credit scholarships to take up to two dual credit courses for free. In order to "cash in" on the two free dual credit scholarships, a student must log in to his/her KHEAA account and select which college/university will receive the scholarship money. If the student does not complete this step, he/she will receive a bill for the coursework. Mrs. Thomas has a meeting at the beginning of each school year to assist students. Students who were absent or need additional help should see Mrs. Thomas. A link for the dual credit scholarship instructions is located to the right of this screen. If a student cannot access their KHEAA account or it is not functioning properly, then the student should contact KHEAA at (800) 928-8926 or studentaid@kheaa.com or rgilpatrick@kheaa.com. When sending an e-mail, please include your date of birth, full LEGAL name, a description of what is wrong, and what you want to select for your scholarship preferences. Remember, you can select the college and semester (ECTC Spring).

Freshmen, sophomores, and students who have used their scholarships must pay for the the dual credit class. The tuition rate for dual credit courses is established through the Kentucky legislature. It is currently set at 2/5 (40%) of the KCTCS in-state tuition cost. For details, see Tuition & Costs. For 2020, the cost is $179 per credit hour. So, the dual credit fee is approximately $60 per credit hour. Most college courses are worth 3 credit hours. So, the total cost for a 3 credit hour class would be $179. Keep in mind, there may be additional fees for materials. Many online classes have digital textbook fees. PSY 110 and CIT 105 are a few examples. Read your syllabus.

Dual credit students need to understand they are college students. They must adhere to all college policies including grading scales, payment deadlines, and drop/add deadlines. On the day the class opens, students must read the syllabus and develop a plan for studying and completing assignments.

Students should also think about their future college choice and their major to decide which dual credit courses are the best fit. Not all colleges or majors have the same requirements. STUDENTS CAN JEOPARDIZE FUTURE FINANCIAL AID if they take several dual credit classes that are not on their program of studies.

LaRue County High School does not handle billing. Students need to remember their scholarship selections. Check your KHEAA account, check your college online billing account, and/or contact the college for questions about scholarships or bills.

WORK READY

Students may use a Work Ready Scholarship to pay for CTE (Career and Technical Education) classes. Students are eligible to use two Work Ready Scholarships each year of high school. These scholarships do not cover materials/books. Dual credit agriculture classes, Nelson County ATC programs, SEEK programs via ECTC, CIT 105, U of L education classes, health sciences, computer programming, and criminal justice are examples of courses that students have taken in the past.

Students request Work Ready scholarships the same way they request dual credit scholarships. Students just need to make sure they select Work Ready instead of Dual Credit.

AP COURSES

LaRue County High School offers AP Calculus. If a student scores well, he/she may earn credit at some colleges. Each college makes that decision. Students who are in a dual credit course may not benefit from taking an AP exam since they will already have credit for the course. Please use the links at the right and talk to your admissions counselor before you make your decision to take the test.

AP exams are given according to the AP schedule. There are no exceptions. The schedule is posted at the beginning of the year. If a student is late or misses an exam for personal reasons, then he/she may not test. There will be no refund. Late exams will only be given for unforeseeable circumstances. In that case, the student must have the appropriate documentation (doctor's note, note from funeral director, etc.) and speak to the principal.

* Students may be eligible to earn more credits through our college partners.
