Central idea: 'Environments can be expressed through art.


1. An inquiry into human and physical features of environments

2. An inquiry into how environment influences art

3. An inquiry comparing the influence of environment on past and present artists

As part of this inquiry, the children looked at human and physical features of a variety of environments. We identified the main features of these and wrote a descriptive piece using our knowledge of these environments.

Following this, the children focused on Claude Monet and how he used the same environment in different lights and seasons to create his impressionism artwork. Pupils wrote a biography about Claude Monet before comparing his artwork to Baksy and Mr Doodle. The children then created landscape apples so they could demonstrate their understanding of environments. They used the different art stlyes we had studied in order to create these. The children also created 3D dioramas of their favourite environments.

Maths

In maths this term, we have focused on multiplication and division. We have been able to learn our 5’s, 2’s,3’s, 4’s, 10’s and 8’s . Click on the links attached to hear the songs we have been learning to help us with this.

We have been been able to discuss and show sharing and grouping using bar models. We have been able to multiply a two digit number by a 1 digit with and without exchanges. 

Towards the end of term we have investiagted the relationship between division and multiplication. 

English

This term we have focused a lot on our writng. We have written a detailed setting description, a biography and an explanation text.  We have looked at the key features of all these text types. We have been able to use expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials and commas throughout our work. We have been able to use prepositions to describe the place of an object.  We have developed our note taking skills and this supported us with our biography writing.
