Our first line of inquiry was focused around how History has been shared through time. The children have identified primary and secondary sources and began to look at source bias and how this impacts our understanding of the past.
We looked at the events of the Battle of Hastings and how this was shared, before moving on to learning about Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth. The children analysed sources on these monarchs before completing their own research. The children then used this learning to write their own biographies.
The children have also produced their own small scene of the Bayeux Tapestry using a range of sewing stitches as well as their own model figurine using modroc.
During our second line of inquiry this term, Year 5 children learnt about how beliefs are shared. We started by looking at their own beliefs and discussing how these have been shared over time and thus linking back to their first line of inquiry.
Following this, the children spent time looking at the Christian beliefs of love, forgiveness, right choices and generosity and whether these are still relevant in today's society. Pupils took part in an oral storytelling workshop which they thoroughly enjoyed. They then used this knowledge to write their own modern day parable of the Good Samaritan.
Through this line of inquiry, we began by looking at how communication has changed over time and some of the significant developments in communication using our class timeline. We considered types of modern communication (blogs, VLOGS, podcasts, face to face calls) and the advantages and disadvantages to each. The children watched some AI-generated sources that explored different perspectives of modern communication and thoughts on these. Pupils used this to generate their own Google survey.
The children then had the opportunity to write their own script for a VLOG before beginning to film and edit this using computer software.
