An inquiry into storytelling, story genres and story elements.
An inquiry into how stories relate to culture and history.
An inquiry into the role of illustrators to bring a story to life.
What an amazing inquiry journey the children have been on this term. They have embraced different stories from faiths and cultures around the world and have developed a love for reading!
Children in Year 2 have been developing their understanding of bringing a story to life through illustrations and animation. They researched local artist Tony Hart and thoroughly enjoyed learning about Morph. The children attempted to recreate their own animations by designing a setting and building their own Morph using terracotta clay!
Through the lens of science, Year 2 pupils explored how materials change to create a new product, such as paper mache. Following this, the children used this knowledge to design and create their own pencil pots which they are using in the classroom to keep their writing tools safe and accessible!
The Year 2 team would like to say a massive thank you to all parents and carers for adapting your day so that your child could visit Maidstone Library. The children had the best morning exploring the different genres and listening to a story!
We welcomed our storyteller, John Kirk, into the academy and during John's visit he brought the life the story of 'The Enormous Crocodile'! The children were truly engaged in the experience and showed an enthusiasm for storytelling.
This term, Year 2 pupils have learnt about money and started exploring multiplication and division. We have used knowledge of addition and subtraction from the previous term to help us understand the new concepts.
Our academy encourages children to use Times Tables Rockstars to support their Maths learning. In Year 2, we learn the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. Please can you encourage your child to use TTRS at least twice a week.
Thank you to all parents and carers that engage in frequently listening to your child read at home, it is having an amazing impact on their fluency and love for reading.
Reading at home is incredibly important and supports your child's fluency and comprehension. Our academy encourages children to read at least four times a week at home. Please encourage this by incorporating reading into your child's afternoon and/or evening routines to further support them with their reading.
