Central Idea: Environments can be expressed through art
Line of inquiry 1: An inquiry into human and physical features of environments.
Through the lens of geography, we identified the countries and cities found in the UK, particularly focusing on the capital cities. We then used our research skills to find out about famous landmarks in the UK, both human and physical and locating them on the map.
Through our writing skills, we then created an explanation text to show our understanding of the landmarks we had researched.
Line of inquiry 2: An inquiry into how environment influences art.
In this inquiry, the children have been centring their learning around Claude Monet. We have looked at how the environment inspired his impressionism movement and how he mixed colours. Through the lens of art, we were able to mix colours in a similar way, using our knowledge of tertiary colours. We also used our school grounds to inspire our own artwork.
'The Magical Garden of Claude Monet' was an excellent text to study where we developed our reading VIPERS skills. We also wrote our own narrative based on this story, which allowed us to demonstrate our descriptive language and understanding of direct speech punctuation.
Line of inquiry 3: An inquiry comparing the influence of environment on past and present artists.
Continuing with our artist studies, we researched William Morris who also produced work that was influenced by the environment. We then compared artwork in the past to more modern day artwork, including the beautiful landscapes created by Nagib Karsan.
This work was all supported by our amazing printmaking workshop where we were able to use gel plates and over-printing to create our own leaf and feather designs.
Thank you for your continued support with your child's learning. The children are half way through their Year 3 journey and they are absolutely thriving! You should be very proud of what they have achieved and we know it will continue into the second half of this academic year.
Have a lovely Half Term break!
