Our first week back after the Christmas holidays was very cold, and in Reception we were learning about the four seasons and, specifically, the season of winter.
We started the term by using our senses to explore the winter season and to describe the different things we could see, hear, touch and smell.
The children studied pictures of cold environments and had lots of fun when there was snow and ice on the ground when we had our Forest School. In the classroom we filled our tuff trays with snow so that the children could explore what happened when paint was mixed into it. We created some icebergs and thought about the animals that would live in that environment. The children created some lovely artwork showing cold and icy environments.
Our exploration into animals started with polar bears, and we then went on to find out some facts about giraffes, penguins, camels, and harp seals. The children used different resources in their research which enabled them to make some informed comparisons between both the animals and their habitats. They were then able to produce some lovely handwritten sentences to explain their findings, and remembered to leave finger spaces and include full stops at the end of their sentences.
