1. Pass CBEST (Schedule exam)

2. Pass the Multiple Subject CSET Plus Writing Skills Exam (Schedule exam)

3. Pass the CSU Early Assessment Program or the CSU Placement Examinations (See Table 1 below)

4. Achieve Qualifying Score on the SAT or ACT (See Table 2 - 4 below)

   • SAT Requirement: 500 or higher on Critical Reading combined with a score of 550 or higher on the Mathematics exam

   • ACT Requirement: 22 or higher on the ACT English exam combined with a score of 23 or higher on the Mathematics exam

5. College Board Advanced Placement Examination (See Table 5 below)

   • Requirement: Score of 3 or higher on the College Board AP English exam and AP Calculus or AP Statistics 

6. Pass a Basic Skills Examination from Another State (Out of State Basic Skills Exams Chart)

7. Meet the Basic Skills Requirement by Coursework (Basic Skills Evaluation Worksheet - CL130): Courses must be from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education, non-remedial, BA transferable, grade B- or higher, and/or credit/passed.

   • Reading: a course in critical thinking, literature, philosophy, reading, rhetoric, or textual analysis

   • Writing: a course in composition, English, rhetoric, written communication, or writing

   • Mathematics: a course in algebra, geometry, mathematics, quantitative reasoning, or statistics

8. Meet the Basic Skills Requirement by Coursework and Exam (Guidance Chart)
