We want you to succeed in your new job; on this page you will find information to help you get to know 'KGA' and understand how your probation and induction period will work.
What is a probation?
Your first six months of employment are called 'your probation' and during this time you will undertake your induction and get to grips with your new role. Your line manager will work closely with you to ensure that you have everything you need and that you complete all the required training.
At the end of the probation period you will have a review with your manager. In a vast majority of cases, our colleagues 'pass probation' and are confirmed into their role. In a small number of cases, individuals may find it difficult to settle into the job or in meeting their set objectives. They will be given support to make the necessary adjustments and fullfill the requirements of the role.
Why is there essential induction training?
We work with young people. Keeping them safe is everyone's responsibility. As your employer it is our job to make you aware of your responsibilities and we do this through mandatory training. We deliver training in a variety of ways to make it interesting and relevant.
There is a list of the training below and successfully completing it is a condition of passing your probation.
Undertaking induction training is crucial when you start working for us. We have an obligation to keep every young person safe from harm as well as ensure you have the knowledge you need to do your job safely. Please discuss training with your line manager and be sure you know what you are doing and when.
In any organisation you come across abbreviations/acronyms that are used commonly. There is nothing worse when you are new and do not know what people are talking about! Please always ask. We have also put together this list to help you understand common abbreviations.
If you work at a KGA school then you are 'the Trust'!
We have academies across Berkshire, East Sussex and Hampshire and are a mix of primary, secondary and all through schools. Together we form the King's Group Academy Trust.
In addition to colleagues in each of our locations, we also have a central team who work across all our academies. The central team is made up of the Executive Team, the Head Teacher Board and a range of specialists. Our intention is to provide direction and facilitate collaboration across the Trust in order that we can achieve our organisational aims. A 'MAT' or a Multi Academy Trust is a charitable company which has been set up to operate more than one academy or free school. All the academies share the same members/directors of the board of trustees who are responsible for overall governance although there is still also a local governing body who oversee the day to day running of the school.
MAT's operate independently of the Local Authority. Each academy receives funding from central government and the MAT can decide how the school is run. The 'MAT' is your legal employer. There is no ‘lead school’.
One of the great benefits about being part of a MAT is you are not on your own! We can share ideas, resources, information and knowledge across our Trust and help each other. We also have a Central Team who provide professional specialist support such as Finance, HR and Estates Management.
