This week we have started to talk about parts and wholes. For example: a part is 2, a part is 3, the whole is 5. This will lead us on to learning about addition.
Today, Tuesday, we practised drawing part-whole models on the playground for numbers to 10.
We have been learning to add two numbers, using part whole methods.
We have been learning about number bonds to 10 and finding number bonds within 10.
We have used numicon to help us add two numbers.
We can write our number sentences in different ways.
We played a domino and a matching game to help us learn number bonds to 10.

We have worked hard to solve addition problems and 'find a part'. We have used part-whole models to do this and supported our learning with numicon, number lines and tens frames.
The chidlren are getting to be very good at finding a part and understanding how to use equipment to help them.
In this challenge the children were given a part, 4, and had to investigate to find the other part and the whole. The numbers has to all be 10 or under.
The children enjoyed this investigating and had many different solutions to offer.
We have been working hard on reading and solving subtraction numb er sentences.
We have practised taking away and crossing out to help us subtract.
This week we are consolidating our learning on subtraction.
We have learned to use number lines to help us count back when solving a subtraction number sentence.
