5th grade will be outside and ready to run at 12:30 pm and return to class at 1:15 pm
6th grade will be outside and ready to run at 1:45 pm will return to class at 2:30 pm.
If you are planning to attend or check out your child early after the Color Run please fill out this form - Early Release.
Students' clothes may get messy due to this event. So, to prepare, we encourage kids to bring another shirt/shorts/pant to change into after their event. Also, we have already warned our buses that there could be some "extra color" coming their way. If your child rides the bus OR you pick them up, you may want to either send a towel or have a towel ready in the vehicle for him/her to sit on. :)
MEET SOME OF OUR NEW BRAVE STAFF MEMBERS!
Hello BCI Braves!
My name is Erica Detwiler, and I am teaching 5th grade ELA Resource. This will be my 10th year teaching and my first in Keller ISD. I previously taught in Fairfax County Public Schools (Virginia) where I served as a teacher, coach, and department chair. Since moving to Texas in 2017 I have enjoyed part-time teaching positions and filled in as a substitute teacher in Keller ISD, most recently in a long-term special education position.
My husband and I have three children. Kaylin is in 8th grade at KMS, Bryce is in 5th grade here at BCI, and Sienna is in 4th grade at Hidden Lakes Elementary. In addition to a busy sports and activities schedule, we also have a 100-pound chocolate lab named Rusty who keeps us on our toes.
I look forward to meeting everyone this year and am grateful to be a part of the BCI family. Hope everyone has a wonderful school year!
Hello Braves families,
It is an honor to introduce myself to the Bear Creek Intermediate School as one of the new 6th grade Special Education Elementary Resource/Inclusion teacher. My name is Amber Vakoc, and I am eager to meet, work with, and get to know all of you this upcoming school year.
This school year will be my 22nd year in education all within the Special Education classroom setting (Pre-K to 8th grade). I am a proud alumnus of Slippery Rock University (SRU) of PA with my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and minors in Adapted PE and Gerontology. I am from a small rural town in Western PA where we cheer on the guys that wear Black and Yellow (Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Pittsburg Penguins). I moved to Texas back in 1998 for my internship and have been here ever since. I fell in love and enjoyed catching a game or two from either the Texas Rangers Baseball or the Dallas Stars.
My husband (of 13 years) and I have called Fort Worth/Saginaw home for the past 15 years. We have 2 four-year Golden Labs (Daisy and Opal) that keep us on our toes.
Looking forward to a fantastic, fun-filled school year.
Hi, I’m Lorraine Cowen and this is my 17th year with Keller ISD. During my 16 years with Keller I have worked in Special Ed.
I am so glad to be here at BCI, it already feels like family.
I am originally from Plymouth, England and my husband, Andy is from Liverpool. We moved to North Carolina in 2001 and then to Texas in 2007. My daughter Emma is a sophomore at LeTourneau University studying Psychology, and my husband is a Product Manager at Corning.
I enjoy reading in my free time and we love to travel. My husband and I are soccer (football) fans of Liverpool Football Club. Go Reds!! I am excited to serve here at BCI.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAY!
Mark it on your calendar! Spiffy up that smile! September 19th will be picture day for our Braves! Our schedule allows our students and staff members to have pictures taken in the morning so that "after recess look" won't be a permanent memory. :)
If you would like to opt your student out of attending the Book Fair, please fill out the following form. If you need a paper copy, you or your Brave can pick one up from our office.
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: September 30th- October 4th
Location: BCI Library
Family Event schedule and location: Thursday October 3rd, 5 PM- 6 PM
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/bearcreekintermediateschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Mikaela Hurst
Librarian
Bear Creek Intermediate

NURSE INFORMATION
Nurse Kennerty: melissa.kennerty@kellerisd.net
Please take note of Keller ISD's new policy regarding leaving over the counter medications in the school clinic. Beginning the 2024-25 school year, all medication, including over the counter, will require a completed medication administration form with a parent AND physician's signature in order to be left in the school clinic. All medications must have either a current prescription label or a medication administration form with a physician's signature.
We encourage you to review the map for drop off and pick up expectations. Our focus is for safety for all. The easiest piece of advice is to follow our staff's instructions in our drop off/pick up lanes. If they need you to pull up, please follow this procedure; otherwise, you will be backing up the lanes for drop off which can cause students to be tardy or not being aware of safety concerns as they pertain to our crosswalks. Thank you in advance!
