Vocational Qualifications

vocational Qualifications at Mid-Essex CA

For some pupils, a timetable based solely on GCSE's may not be favourable. If you like learning practical skills and have a real interest in a particular vocational area, such as construction skills, animal care or hair and beauty, then you may be given the opportunity to attend an 'alternative education' (AltEd) training provider one or two days a week.

In addition to GCSE's in years 10 and 11 will have the chance to work towards an additional vocational qualification (Level 1 BTEC, City & Guilds or Gateway). This type of qualification is an invaluable addition to your CV and apprenticeship applications.

Taking part in AltEd and working towards a vocational qualification will allow you to develop skills, gain experience and knowledge that employers want. This along with a good work ethic and understanding of the world of work will increase the likelihood of being offered an apprenticeship when you leave school in year 11.

This is an advantageous programme of learning and you will have to show that you have the personal qualities that can sustain a place at AltEd. You will need to:

  • show maturity, dedication and a strong desire to learn new skills at AltEd

  • be able to commit to taking part

  • have the personal integrity to be trusted in an AltEd environment

  • have a genuine interest in learning new skills in a work based environment

  • be able to adapt to your different learning environments during each week

  • be punctual, attend full days and follow the expectations of each AltEd training provider
