Tomorrows engineers - A parents guide to engineering careers
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM is important because it is part of our everyday lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes to our home. Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives.
Pupils at Mid-Essex CA get the chance to take part in a broad range of STEM activities within subject areas. By taking part in these activities you will get the chance to develop your critical thinking and reasoning skills, teamwork, investigative and creative skills. All skills that can be transferred to working life whether it be in a STEM related field or not.
STEM education is important due to there being a STEM Job Crisis. There is currently a gap between the jobs that are in high demand and the skills required to fill them - and the gap is only going to grow if nothing is done about it. Therefore it's important that young people are given more opportunities to gain skills needed to work within STEM sectors.
