Student Wellbeing & Engagement
At Kalianna School, we believe in a whole-school approach to student welfare and engagement. We are committed to continually developing our learning culture in this area, with a focus on self-esteem, empowerment, independence, confidence, and student safety. Our school community is dedicated to building positive relationships between students, staff, parents, and the wider community. Our vision, "Unite and Inspire," and our three values of Positive, Inclusive, and Creative, along with our Expected Behaviour and Discipline/Referral Matrix, provide clear expectations for everyone.
We are committed to improving student engagement and wellbeing. We actively teach resilience, organisation, persistence, confidence, and getting along to ensure happiness and success for all students. We work to create a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
At our school we like to encourage good behaviour by using a reward system based on our Expected Behaviour Matrix. This matrix sets out the behaviors we expect from our students and aligns with our school values. When students display these behaviors, they earn Dojo/Kabee Points that they can use to buy things at our School Kabee Shop. We also give out awards for Student of the Week at our school assembly to recognise and celebrate students who have gone above and beyond in displaying our school values. We believe that by recognising and celebrating positive behaviour, we can create a positive learning culture where everyone feels safe and supported.
At Kalianna School, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all our students. Our focus on student engagement and wellbeing, along with our clear expectations and reward system, helps us to achieve this goal. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our approach to student welfare and engagement, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Allied Health Professionals
We prioritise the well-being of our students and staff. To ensure this, we collaborate with highly skilled Allied Health Professionals to offer comprehensive support to our school community. Our team of specialists includes a Speech Pathologist, Developmental Educator, Mental Health Practitioner, and Welfare Worker, all of whom are available to work with your child on-site.
The referral process for our Allied Health Professionals is straightforward. All referrals are evaluated and prioritised based on the needs of the child, and sessions are allocated accordingly. If you believe that your child would benefit from seeing one of our specialists, please contact your child's teacher or Learning Centre Leader.
Before any student can receive support from our Allied Health Professionals, a permission form must be completed. This form can be found in the enrolment pack and must be completed and returned to us before any sessions can be scheduled. Please contact the office, if you require another form.
At Kalianna, we are committed to providing comprehensive support to our school community. Our team of Allied Health Professionals are highly skilled and ready to work with your child to address their individual needs. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Allied Health Professionals, please do not hesitate to contact us.
NDIS Navigator
At Kalianna, we have recently been able to hire an NDIS Navigator. The role of a NDIS Navigator involves offering comprehensive support and guidance to parents, grandparents, and caregivers to enhance their understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). NDIS Navigators act as advocates where necessary, ensuring families are informed about and have access to NDIS-funded support services tailored to their children's needs. This includes facilitating communication, fostering relationships, and serving as a liaison between families, schools, the community, and NDIS service providers.
NDIS Navigators play a pivotal role in fostering collaborative practices between NDIS-funded services and educational institutions. They provide essential information, documentation, and logistical support for approved NDIS-funded therapists' onsite visits to schools, facilitating seamless integration of support services within the educational environment.
NDIS Navigators offer guidance and assistance to parents, grandparents, and caregivers in resolving any challenges or issues they encounter through appropriate channels. Their primary aim is to empower families by enabling a deeper comprehension of the NDIS, thereby maximising the available supports for their children.
It's important to note that while the NDIS Navigator provides expert guidance and information, the final decision regarding the necessity of advocacy and the utilisation of available resources rests with the families. Mr. Bush, as part of the decision-making process, will assess the family's needs and circumstances to determine the appropriate level of advocacy or support required.
