Transport of Children to and from School
To ensure safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school, the Department of Education and Training (DET) provides contract buses with a supervisor on each bus. If you require your child to catch the bus, you can contact the Kalianna office in person or by phone at 03 5442 1311 to obtain an application form for the 'Students with Disabilities Transport Program'.
Once the application form is completed, students will be allocated a seat on their designated bus, and parents will receive an information sheet containing details about the bus route and pick up and drop off times for their child. Pickups will take place in the morning at the designated time and location.
In the afternoon, school buses depart between 3 pm and 3:20 pm, except on the last day of term, when buses leave the school at 2 pm - 2:20 pm. Families will be reminded of the changes to the end-of-term timings.
At Kalianna, we take the safety and security of our students seriously, and we are committed to ensuring that each child is transported to and from school in a reliable and secure manner.
Conveyance Allowance
For students attending a special school whose travel is more than 4.8 km by the shortest practicable route to the free school bus, an application for the Department's conveyance allowance can be made. If you require more information on this, please contact the Kalianna office in person or by phone at 03 5442 1311 and our business manager will be happy to assist you further.
At Kalianna, we understand the importance of providing accessible and safe transportation options for our students. We encourage families to explore the available options and make use of any assistance that may be available to ensure their child's educational journey is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
General Expectations for Bus Travel
Please note that students are required to board and alight from school transport under the supervision of their designated teacher each day. In the event of any changes to a child's regular transport arrangements, such as illness, pick up arrangements or attendance at OSHC, parents or carers are required to notify both the bus company and Kalianna.
It is important to be aware that failure to communicate any changes to transport arrangements may result in your child being transported according to their usual schedule. Please note that all notifications regarding transport arrangements must be made by an adult, and not by the student.
In the event of bus delays, we kindly request that parents or carers contact the relevant transport company directly, as Kalianna does not always have access to this information. It is also the responsibility of parents or carers to supervise their child and ensure that they are present at the designated bus stop before school each day.
Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of our students to and from school.
