Communication
We value open communication between parents and teachers, and encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any concerns or questions. Please note that our teachers are unable to take phone calls or speak with you during class time. However, they are available for short messages before or after school.
To facilitate easy and efficient communication, we invite all parents to download the Class Dojo app to their phone. This app allows for two-way communication between home and school for all students. Alternatively, parents and caregivers can elect to be contacted by email, SMS or phone call if they prefer that method of communication.
If you have a matter that requires face-to-face discussion, please make an appointment either directly with the teacher or through the school office. Our teachers are happy to meet with you and discuss any concerns you may have.
If you wish to speak with the Learning Centre Leader, Assistant Principal or Principal, please make an appointment at the school office. We value your feedback and are committed to working with you to ensure your child's success.
Student Support Group Meetings (SSG)
At Kalianna School, we believe in open and regular communication between teachers and parents. We offer a range of reporting methods to keep you informed about your child's progress and development throughout the school year.
Our reporting methods include mid-year and end-of-year student reports, student-led conferences (parent/teacher interviews), informal discussions, information evenings, performances, event notes, phone calls, and SMS messages.
In addition to our regular reporting methods, we hold Student Support Group Meetings (SSG Meetings) throughout the year.
During each term, we hold an SSG Meeting to discuss goals for your child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and progress towards these goals. These meetings provide an opportunity to review your child's progress, identify areas of strength and areas for improvement, and to discuss strategies for further support.
At these meetings, we encourage parents to share any concerns or insights about their child's progress and development, and to work collaboratively with the teacher to set appropriate goals and strategies for the next term.
SSG Meetings can be arranged at any other time as required, by notifying either the classroom teacher or Learning Centre Leader.
We encourage parents to attend these meetings as they provide an opportunity for collaboration between parents and teachers to support your child's learning and development.
Dojo, Facebook & Website
We believe in keeping parents informed and up-to-date with important information, events and school policies. We provide various channels for communication and encourage parents to take advantage of them.
Our school website, www.kalianna.vic.edu.au, is regularly updated and has our school policies and overall key information. We encourage parents to check the website out.
In addition, we invite you to ‘like’ us on Facebook (Kalianna School Bendigo) so that you can see everything that is happening at school and receive important updates and event reminders. This is a great way to stay connected with the school community and keep up-to-date with the latest news.
We also use an app called 'Class Dojo' in our classrooms. This app allows staff to communicate with parents in real-time, providing updates on what is happening in the classroom, sending photos of student activities, and facilitating 1 to 1 communication between parents and teachers. We encourage parents to download the app and stay connected with their child's learning. Parents will be connected after enrolment is complete, a text message will be sent to your phone with your child's login details. Should you require any further assistance while using Dojo, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 03 5442 1311 and request to speak with Sally Bush.
Assembly
Our assembly is a big part of our school and we value the importance of this weekly event as it provides an opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the achievements of our students.
Assembly is held in the Multipurpose Room every Friday afternoon at 2.10 pm, with our doors opening for our families at 2 pm. However, in the event of a public holiday, school events or SSG's, the assembly will be held on the day before.
During the assembly, we recognise and award the Student of the Week, who has shown exceptional performance and contribution to the school community. This recognition includes a canteen voucher for the student. In addition, we celebrate birthdays during the assembly.
As part of our assembly, we also showcase our Kalianna TV Show, KBTV, which is created by our students with the support of our media team. This provides our students with a platform to showcase their creative talents and contributions to our school community.
We encourage parents to attend our assembly and share in the celebrations of our students. Additionally, we offer a live stream of the assembly on our school's Facebook page, allowing parents who cannot attend in person to still participate in the event.
