In order to be eligible to miss class for an activity students must be passing all classes. This includes early dismissal for activities and travel. Grade checks for travel are usually done the Friday before the trip. The deadline to show passing grades is either 2:00PM the last school day before travel or 2:00PM the last school day before airline tickets are booked.
Travel outside the district for sports/activities requires an approved Travel Authorization. This is normally completed and submitted to the district by NPHS admin. Once the Travel Authorization is complete, and before the date of travel coaches/advisors must:
Submit a travel roster to the activities secretary in time for an initial eligibility check no later than the Friday before travel (or the Friday before the deadline for airline ticket name changes).
Get final verification of eligibility for all traveling students from the activities secretary no later than 2:00PM the last school day before travel.
For all out of district travel, complete and submit the district's Activities Travel form (including uploading a copy of your final travel roster). DO NOT use the link on the form to complete a Travel Authorization. This will be done for you by the NPHS Activities Coordinator or Administrator.
If the travel is for a non-athletic activity (this generally means travel for groups other than sports teams), the advisor/sponsor must complete and submit the Student Field Trip Insurance form no later than 24 hours prior to the travel date.
If traveling by rental vehicle, the additional requirements apply:
Drivers must be approved volunteers through the school district and copies of their driver's license and insurance must be on file at the school.
Travel by rental vehicle after 11PM requires prior approval from the superintendent.
Rental vehicles may not be used for travel if the temperature is, or is forecast to be, -30 or below without prior approval from the superintendent.
During winter all passengers in all ground transportation are required to have in their possession a winter hat, winter coat, gloves, winter boots, snow pants, and a blanket or winter sleeping bag. It is the coach's responsibility to make sure students have these items prior to traveling.
