FSA ID

The college bound student and one parent will need to have an FSD ID. Parents will utilize the same FSA ID for each of their college bound students, as well as for themselves, if they've been a student. The student will need to create an FSA ID. They need to establish this with a email address and phone number that they will have long term. Students should not use their K12 email address for their FSA ID. You will not be able to complete the FAFSA until your FSA ID has been confirmed. It generally takes 1-3 days to receive your confirmation.

FAFSA

All college bound students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are some websites out there that may make you pay to do this or will complete it for you for a fee. We don't recommend doing that. FAFSA will open on or before December 31, 2023 for the 2024-2025 school year. You will need to have your FSA ID before you can complete FAFSA. The FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year will use your 2022 income taxes.

This information will go directly to the college, university or technical college that you selected. You will receive an Award Letter from those educational institutions.

We do not recommend utilizing websites that require you to "pay" to apply.

Alternative Lender Lists

Students and/or parents can apply for private loans. Many colleges and universities utilize an alternative lender list. One of the common ones is FASTChoice. Links can be found on each school's websites under Financial Aid. If ever in doubt, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Financial Aid Office, if you have questions.
