The ACT test is an admission test that use to be required for college admission. We see more colleges and universities saying "test optional." To determine if it's right for you, check with the colleges/universities that you're considering for admission. We still strongly encourage taking the ACT, if you plan on attending a 4-year college or university, to keep your options open.
The ACT is given seven (7) times a year on nationally scheduled test dates. Roosevelt High School is a national test site but all students must register ONLINE with ACT! It is highly suggested juniors take the ACT by the end of their junior year. We recommend Seniors take the ACT before December, in order to have scores in time for college admission and scholarships. The ACT has assessments for English, math, reading, and natural science reasoning skills. Composite scores range from 1-36. The ACT offers a written component for an additional charge. Check with your colleges for requirements. The ACT can be taken as many times as the student chooses. Colleges will typically use the student’s highest composite score. Some colleges and scholarships may use a "SuperScore," if it's been taken more than once.
Counseling has fee waivers for families who are on free or reduced meals.
For more information or to register for the ACT, go to: The ACT Test for Students | ACT
NOTE: Register early to ensure the testing site. Sites will fill up before the deadlines and students will have to select from alternate sites.

The SAT is another option for a college admissions test. Most colleges will accept either the ACT or the SAT. As with the ACT, students should take the test at the end of their junior year or beginning of their senior year. In most cases, you do not need to take both. The SAT tests reading, writing, and math. There are also specific subject tests that some colleges require or a student can choose to take to showcase their ability. Check with the college's you're looking at for their requirements.
