College Algebra, Fundamentals of Communication (Speech), General Psychology and Essentials of Anatomy/Physiology are dual credit courses that may be offered in-person at Roosevelt High School. College Algebra is a semester long, offered in the fall semester. We offer a second semester to assist students wishing to reach four years of math but students will not earn college credit. Speech and General Psychology are semester long. Essentials of Anatomy/Physiology is a year-long course. We must have 10 students enrolled in order to have an in-person class offered. Classes may be taken online as well.
All classes listed above will be offered through the University of South Dakota (USD), if there is enough demand. They will be taught by a RHS teacher and will meet daily per the SFSD calendar. Students will need to complete their dual credit enrollment through the college in addition to requesting it through RHS.

The best way to determine if a dual credit course will transfer to the school you want to attend is to contact the school directly.
One resource to check the course's portability is TRANSFEROLOGY.
On March 19, 2025, Governor Rhoden signed HB 1040 to increase the responsibility of dual credit tuition to fify percent student responsibility and fifty percent state responsibility. (This is an increase from one-third student responsibility and two-thirds state responsibility.) This increase will take effect for the Fall 2025 term.
Dual credit courses cost $50.84 $78.48 per credit hour plus the cost of books and materials. Students will pay tuition directly to the college through their D2L system (SDePay). For example, a three credit course will cost $152.52 $235.44 plus the cost of books and materials. If a student were to take the exact same three credit course at USD or SDSU as a full-time student, they would pay $266.60 per credit hour and the course would cost $799.80 plus books, materials and fees.
While the cost of tuition through the dual credit program is reduced significantly, it may still be a hardship. SDSU offers the Jackrabbit ACE First Bank and Trust Scholarship for economically disadvantaged high school juniors and seniors to enroll in dual credit courses at SDSU. Please see the link for more information.
USD offers scholarships to students who successfully complete a dual credit course through them and attend their university following graduation.

If you’ve taken dual credit while in high school, you may need to request to have your official college transcript sent to the college you plan on attending in the fall after graduation. Please place your request after all dual credit courses are completed to avoid having to request it more than once. We recommend making your request in late-May or early-June to ensure courses are completed and the college receives them in ample time.
