Fostering the soft skills for the 21st century is important to me as an educator. I want students of all ages to be successful in whatever capacity that looks like. The use of problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, sustained inquiry and communication are used consistently within my lessons. Above all, it is not the answers to the questions we seek, but the questions to the answers. Keep asking questions!
My educational philosophy is based on three educational themes: leadership, technologist and learner.
Leadership-Teachers are leaders. I believe we take on these roles of mentors, collaborators, and cheerleaders. We seek to guide students on their learning path of knowledge whether they are children or adult. We collaborate with our peers to find the best solution possible or the best way to teach a lesson. We are cheerleaders, encouraging our peers and students on to successful learning.
Technologist- The use of technology must be done in a way that improves the learning of my students, not as a substitute for learning but as an enrichment for learning. The use of technology must be done in a way that students are able to create, discover, and grow their own learning.
Learner- I believe learning should be lifelong. From children to adults, every person is capable of learning. We need to understand the theories behind learning from pedagogy to andragogy. We need to understand the differences of teaching children versus teaching adults. We need to learn new strategies to be able reach and teach all students.
