CET 751 Computer Hardware and Networking
Course Description: A study of technology hardware and networks used in the educational setting. Topics include hardware maintenance purchase and upgrade, network wiring, topologies, planning, installation, and maintenance of computer networks. This course requires a 6-day summer on-campus residency.
Reflection: This was a week long face-to-face course, that covered a wide variety of topics involving technology hardware and networking basics. During this class, we had the opportunity to look at the different technological devices that are used in the classroom; laptops, chromebooks and tablets. We had the chance to take them apart and then put them back together. A large project that we had to complete was a research paper. I chose to research the Chromebook as I will be incorporating Chromebooks into my Computer Lab at St. Mary's. Through this research paper, I was able to learn about the chromebooks beginning and why it became the top technology device for use in schools. We then had to create a presentation on our research paper and present it during our 6 day on-campus sessions. We listened to many presentations from other educational professionals themselves.
These opportunities have helped to better prepare me for identifying technological issues and make decisions on what devices would be best in the school.

How I Will Use This in my Professional Career:
I will use the information from this course to help me to understand the hardware within the technology that I use in my classes. I will also use the information that I was provided to develop group policies for my school.
