Intentionality
All technology integration in the classroom should be intentional. A theme across the MSET program is intentional technology use. The technology being integrated into the classroom should have a purpose for the students; otherwise, it is just taking up time. When technology is used intentionally, it allows for clear goals and expectations for student use.
Alignment with MSET Objectives:
integrate computer software, authoring tools, programming languages, the Internet, and multimedia into curriculum design and instruction;
use telecommunications-based tools to integrate information into the classroom and the curriculum;
be aware of current trends and issues in computer education, distance education, electronic communications, computer hardware, and software;
be proficient in finding, evaluating, and using current educational research to support continuous improvement in their profession
CET 720: Effective Technology Plan Infographic
This graphic, while geared towards a technology plan, has helped me reflect on my own classroom technology integration. The points that were addressed into this graphic can be mirrored into classroom technology integration. Technology use needs to be intentional for it to be useful for learners.
LT 731: Calculating the Area of a Triangle Video
This animated video reviews how to calculate the area of triangles using the high interest topic (for middle schoolers) of food. Middle school learners can relate to having to cut a sandwich to share with either their friends or siblings. The relatability makes the math example more tangible to them. This video was intentionally created for this class assignment because when I worked with learners on IEPs, math concepts like the area of a triangle can be difficult to grasp. This video gave them a visual that they could relate to and allowed them to retain the information better.
