Innovation
Innovation is an overarching theme across the MSET program. As an educator, I need to be in continuous pursuit of improvement not only for my lessons but also for myself. Innovation is the idea that small changes can be made to gradually overhaul the entire setup. In my classroom, this looks like implementing new technologies that I learn about through the MSET program, such as Nearpod. Innovation is embracing new ideas with the intention of continuous growth while understanding there is a potential for setbacks. Setbacks are innovative ideas that do not work yet. They are learning opportunities to help reframe future innovative ideas.
Alignment with MSET Objectives:
understand the capabilities of the computer, its impact on education, business, industry, and government; and will be able to adapt to, understand, evaluate, and make use of new and emerging innovations in computer and information technology;
use systematic problem-solving and research-based human/computer interaction practices in the development of computer-assisted instructional programs;
be proficient in finding, evaluating, and using current educational research to support continuous improvement in their profession;
apply learning theory and the principles of instructional design in curricular and instructional decision-making;
CET 792: Course Slide Deck
This slide deck pairs with the instructional map of the course that I made in the final project for the Instructional Design Fundamentals course. I observed lower levels of participation in IEP meetings amongst various General Education teachers that attended. This course equipped me with the tools to create a course that would help gear teachers with information to encourage higher participation at IEP meetings. Rather than looking at the lower level of participation as a road block, this course empowered me to innovate a new way to approach the situation with a solution.
CET 720: Professional Development Video
This project allowed me to present a professional development session to my colleagues. I presented on the "below the surface" pieces of the special education processes. There are many common misunderstandings about special education. This project aimed at taking a problem and finding an innovative solution. Presenting on this topic was an innovative way to open the door for more conversations about special education procedures not only amongst my grade level team but throughout the school district.
