Course Goals:
In this course, students will actively participate to develop their physical fitness and establish a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. I’ll teach my students proper lifting techniques and help them understand how different exercises target specific muscle groups.
My goal for my students is for them to master lifting programs, empowering them to lift confidently and independently. They'll explore the principles of muscle development and recognize the power of a positive mindset in achieving their goals.
My students will set personal lifting goals and meticulously track their progress. Furthermore, they'll engage in peer assessments and gain valuable experience instructing others on safe and effective lifting practices. I’ll offer exciting opportunities to showcase their strength in our Bench Press and Deadlift Competitions, and celebrate their achievements in the Wellness Showcase. Ultimately, this course is designed to equip my students with the knowledge and skills for overall physical fitness and to inspire a lifelong commitment to an active lifestyle.
How will I Check Student Progress:
Demonstrating successful movement forms at a basic level and some mastery level. Based on the movement form rubric, students will demonstrate proper lifting techniques.
Applying movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills. Students perform an exercise with the knowledge of what muscle is being developed.
Active Lifestyle: Exhibit a physically active lifestyle. Students perform weight lifting programs specifically for their goals and objectives.
Demonstrate ways to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Students execute the proper intensity and frequency of repetitions to complete the exercise.

About Me:
This is my 42nd year teaching at Roosevelt, and I'm one of many faculty/staff that is an alumni. As a teacher, I have one of the greatest jobs in the world. I have the power and benefit of being a tremendous influence to my students and can impact them for the rest of their life. Most of us wish that our lives are better, that things will get easier. But we all know that will never happen. What happens is that we handle it better. We learn to cope, adjust and learn from our failures. My mission is to teach my students that adversity is an opportunity and a chance to grow. My number one priority as your son's/daughter's teacher is to encourage them to believe in themselves, persevere and never give up through tough times.
