Course Expectations:
Ceramics 1 is an introductory course that introduces clay as a universal medium of expression. Functional and non-functional pieces from diverse cultures are introduced and analyzed. Hand building techniques involving pinch, coil, slab, and free form modeling are covered. Glazes, glazing techniques, and other methods of surface decoration are explored.
Ceramics 2 is an intermediate course that offers students opportunities to refine methods in clay hand-building techniques, glazing, and surface decoration. Students will be introduced to the potter’s wheel and learn basic throwing techniques.
Ceramics 3 and 4 are advanced courses that offers students opportunities to refine methods in clay hand-building techniques, glazing, and surface decoration. Students will continue to develop and refine their throwing techniques on the potter’s wheel.
AP Art & Design is a course for students who already have knowledge and have shown demonstration of advanced technical art skills and techniques. Students are required to complete a digital portfolio of their artwork (15 Sustained Investigations and 5 Selected Works). Each artwork must demonstrate understanding and control of the medium, technical skill of techniques, and depth of the subject. Students will understand how to synthesize their processes, materials, and ideas to develop their portfolio with the expectation of continued practice, experimentation, and revision of their artworks. Students will also develop written commentary to support their visual artworks in their portfolio.

This is my 16th year as an art teacher at Roosevelt High School!
During my free time, I enjoy baking different dessert items for my friends and family to sample. I also love spoiling my cat child, Shiro <3 My favorite band is the Backstreet Boys and I have seen them in concert 10 times...most recently at the Sphere in Vegas!
