Subject Requirements in the FET Phase
In the FET phase, each learner must enroll in a minimum of seven subjects, structured as follows:
Compulsory Subjects:
English Home Language: A foundational subject that is mandatory for all students.
Life Orientation: This subject focuses on personal development, health, and well-being.
Compulsory Choice Subjects:
First Additional Language: Students must choose either Afrikaans FAL or isiZulu FAL, unless exempted (please email lsmit@jeppeboys.co.za to confirm language exemptions).
Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy: A choice between Mathematics, which is more rigorous, or Mathematical Literacy, which focuses on practical applications.
Elective Subjects: In addition to the compulsory subjects, students must select three elective subjects. These electives allow students to explore specific areas of interest and align their education with future career aspirations.

Choosing Your Subjects
To obtain the National Senior Certificate (NSC) in Grade 12, learners must complete all seven subjects, which includes four compulsory subjects and three electives. The selection process for elective subjects takes place towards the end of Term 3 in Grade 9, with the decisions impacting your academic focus in Grades 10 to 12.
