Week of November 17-21

Bible: In the upcoming week students will continue their unit on Spiritual Disciplines. We will read testimonies of believers who have used spiritual disciplines to strengthen their own faith and the faith of others. We will focus on the disciplines of giving, service, and meditation.

Friendzy: We all have times in life when we feel stressed and anxious. When we are stressed it affects our minds, emotions, and bodies. During this month’s third Friendzy unit, we will be equipped with tools to use as we work through stress and uncertainty as it comes.  Our Friendzy focus this month is “Stress Less—Breathe Easy.” We will be studying Matthew 6:26-27 and 1 Peter 5:7 as our Biblical anchor points this month.

Math

Targets:

This week in math we will continue Chapter 5: Systems of Equations. We will learn our third method for solving systems, solving by elimination. We will continue to see and learn when these systems have one solution, no solutions, and infinitely many solutions. We will use the distribution property to match equations and cancel out variables. We will learn only this section and review before assessing.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we will continue with the second half of Chapter 4, scatter plots and lines of best fit. Students will learn how to create piecewise functions, recalling our inequalities and be able to find values on a graph from a given piecewise function. We will assess on sections 4.6 and 4.7 before reviewing the entire half and testing end of week.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

This week we will wrap up our 5-paragraph essays comparing the film and book version of The Giver. The goal of this unit is to analyze the differences between the film and the book and evaluate whether the changes make the story better or worse.

Science: In the upcoming week students will finish their lab unit about elements, compounds, and chemical symbols. Our learning targets will cover how to write chemical formulas and equations.

Social Studies: We will begin our unit on Thomas Jefferson and some of the major events during his presidency.  We will begin by discussing the Barbary Pirates and the Louisiana Purchase.
