Week of January 26-30

Bible: In the upcoming week students will begin their next unit about Church History and continue with our Friendzy lessons. We are also participating in two willing to wait lessons.

Targets:

This week in math we will continue our unit on chapter 7: functions. Students have already learned the foundations of this unit, understanding linear equations and graphing. In chapter 7, we will learn different vocabulary to describe real life situations, creating function rules (writing equations) to represent a given situations. Students will become familiar with the words; input, output, dependent, and independent variable.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we will continue Chapter 6A: Exponent rules. We will continue working on how to simplify exponents when they are multiplied, divided, and put to a higher power. We will also review fraction exponents and their relation to radical signs, as well as simplifying without using negative exponents. We will learn about exponential functions, understanding how to solve for a given value and write equations when we know our rate of growth or decay.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

On Monday and Tuesday, students will be taking their Language Usage MAP tests in class. For the rest of this week, students will be preparing for their informational writing by spending some time researching online and taking notes on their chosen topics. Students will be writing two short articles, or essays, on World War II topics and use two different text structures (compare & contrast, cause and effect, etc.) to organize their writing. 

Homework:

• Research log due by Friday (class work time will be provided, but students may work on this at home if needed)

Assessment:

• Vocab quiz on Friday 

Science: In the upcoming week students will be starting a new lab unit on chemical reaction ratios. We will follow our safety procedures as we experiment and be working in partnerships to complete our tasks.

Homework: Green Sheet Learning Targets (#1 - 3) - Friday, January 30.

Assessments: None

Social Studies: We will begin our week by finishing a video on the Mexican-American War and the implications of the war.  We will then explore the various political parties that existed in 1860, and Abraham Lincoln's first election victory.  Finally, we will discuss why the Confederacy split from the Union and why the Civil War began.

Assignments: Nothing unless in-class assignments are not complete.

Assessments: Test on Thursday 1/29/26.
