Week of January 19-23

Bible: In the upcoming week students will begin their next unit about Church History and continue with our Friendzy lessons. We are also participating in three willing to wait lessons.

Targets:

This week in math we will begin our next unit on chapter 7: functions. Students have already learned the foundations of this unit, understanding linear equations and graphing. In chapter 7, we will learn different vocabulary to describe real life situations, creating function rules (writing equations) to represent a given situations. Students will become familiar with the words; input, output, dependent, and independent variable.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we will continue Chapter 6A: Exponent rules. We will continue working on how to simplify exponents when they are multiplied, divided, and put to a higher power. We will also review fraction exponents and their relation to radical signs, as well as simplifying without using negative exponents. We will learn about exponential functions, understanding how to solve for a given value and write equations when we know our rate of growth or decay.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

This week we will transition from nonfiction reading to preparing for informational writing on a WWII topic. We will be reviewing informational text structures (problem & solution, compare & contrast, etc.) and then students will implement these structures in their own informational writing pieces.

Homework:

• IXL: VV1 and VV2 (Smartscore of 80+) by Friday

• None unless students need to finish something from class

Assessment:

• Colon retakes on Wednesday

• Vocab quiz on Thursday 

Science: In the upcoming week students will be finishing their unit on The Periodic Table. Then, start our next lab unit on chemical reaction ratios.

Social Studies: We will begin our week by finishing our study of Andrew Jackson.  We will then begin discussing the Dred Scott case, and why it was the worst SCOTUS case of all time.
