Self-Care Tips from Jazzy

This is Jazmine, Jazzy for short! Jazzy is one of the Counseling Department Teacher Assistant's this school year and will be bringing students Weekly Self-Care Tips! Enjoy.

Take a Chill Pill. Kick your feet up and relax. - Jazzy

Do you feel tired after spending a lot of time with other people?

Or are you recharged and excited after connecting with others?

Sometimes you might need to recharge with some quality alone-time with "a nap, a walk, or a warm bath with bubbles." Or you may be more extroverted, and get to recharge with calling a friend and/or Face-timing a relative.

Whatever recharges your battery -- notice it and add it into your weekend/day!

Don't TikTok till 3am. Get some good sleep. - Jazzy

Jazz wants to remind all Oceana Sharks that crying is a healthy way to release toxins from our body. 💧

Make some delicious hot chocolate and relax! ☕️

Try this fun holiday recipe for a hot chocolate that'll warm your soul.

Take walks and don't plan where you're going! -Jazz 🌿

Take pictures of things that you see on your walks! It's really helpful to get out and leave your home, masks permitting, to break up your day.

Take care of YOU! Whatever YOU like to do! 💙

Treat. Your. Self. Period.

A letter to Oceana Students from the OHS Counseling Department & Jazz:

Dear Students,

To anyone student that needs to hear this.

💙

You are doing great.

You are living through a really hard time.

Take each day one step at a time. Give yourself space to feel sorrow, helpless, frustration, anger, grief, anxiety, overwhelm, boredom, restlessness, lack of focus, loss of motivation, bitterness, numbness, sleepiness, and so many more feelings that are VALID.

You are a strong person. Know that you will get through this challenge.

You are a capable person. You can do hard things.

You are a talented person. You have so much to offer this world.

You can do these next weeks, next months, and next chapter of what is a very challenging school year.

Keep going and take it one day at a time.

Plan small joys to get you through the day. A pen that you enjoy taking notes with. A game that you'll play after class. A literal sweet treat. A joy.

Make a schedule and stick to it. Do not beat yourself up for missing a scheduled item/task.

Give yourself space to feel, then keep trying. Crying is cathartic, journaling is a healthy outlet, napping is a fabulous break, walking, running, listening to music, listening to waves, cooking, baking, playing, anything.

Go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Eat breakfast, yogurt, fruit, cereal, something to get you started. Breakfast is weirdly important if you didn't know.

Attend class, take a nap, do your homework with friends over the phone, make slime, help your guardian with the dishes, make a blanket (super easy if you didn't know), pet your cat/dog/bunny, get a fish, make tea/hot chocolate, go on a walk with headphones and listen to your favorite album.

Move.

Move through each day and know that you are doing something really hard.

So long as you are here, you are doing everything right.

You matter.

💙

A message of hope in a tough time, tough week, tough day, tough moment.

Reach out for personalized pep talks or a listening ear.

We are here for you.
