ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Here are a few options students can use for additional support to better improve their understanding of course content.
Office Hours
Oceana teachers have set office hours or by appointment to assist students.
Students are encouraged to use these office hours to better understand the material and gain additional support for each course.
One of the most important skills to learn at Oceana is to advocate for yourself as a student.
Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Email a teacher using proper email etiquette and ask them for clarification or support during Office Hours. They welcome your email as teachers want to help students.
Khan Academy has free videos to help teacher students learn about various content. These videos can become a supplement to what students are learning in their classrooms.
Students can log in using their @jeffersonunion.net email and password.
All Oceana students have a Khan Academy account.
Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. Subjects such as math, science, computing, history, art history, economics, and more, including test preparation (SAT) content. They focus on skill mastery to help learners establish strong foundations, so there's no limit to what they can learn next!

Academic Guidance from OHS Counselors
Get Organized! Being organized makes your day run smoother and it saves you time. It also helps you feel you are in control and on top of things. Get organized by using these tips.
Have the right tools! Just as a carpenter can't build a cabinet without a hammer and nails, a student needs the right tools to be organized. You need paper, pencils, pens, calculator and a backpack. You also need to have notebook(s) for your notes, and a folder for each class. If you cannot afford these items, see your school counselor.
Organize your papers. "A place for everything and everything in its place." This should be true for every paper you have.
Use a student planner. Every Oceana student is given a student planner every year. Using a planner is a great way to keep yourself organized and on track.
Have routines. Have a morning routine that gets your day off to a good start, and a nighttime routine that gets you to bed on time.
Keep it clean. Keep your locker and backpack organized, neat, and clean.
Manage your time!
Consider this: In each 24 hour day, you spend about 8-10 hours sleeping (or you should) and 6 1/2 hours in school. That leaves 9 1/2 hours for everything else such as eating, homework/studying, activities, sports/exercise, work/chores, friends, family, hobbies, community service and relaxing.
Use class time wisely. Use any extra time in class to look over your homework. This will reduce the amount of time you need to speed on homework at night.
Make to-do lists. Each day make a list of all the things you need to do. Cross things off as they get done. At the end each day, take the tasks that didn't get done and put them on the next day's list.
Control time wasters. Social media, TV, and video games are fun - but they can very easily gobble up too much time. Schedule small chunks of time for these activities, and stick to your schedule.
