Wellness Counselor

Jeannette Herbert, MS, PPS

9th-12th Grade Students

Hello! I am very excited to join the Oceana family and get to know you! I love what I do and am passionate about supporting others as we navigate life challenges together.

I grew up in New York and have lived in various cities on both coasts throughout my life (Bay area and Boston). I graduated from Bucknell University with a BS in Psychology and Religious Studies then went on to pursue my MS in Counseling at SFSU, specializing in School and Rehabilitation Counseling. I have experience working in a variety of settings, including private school supporting students with disabilities, in-home counseling, and most recently as a counselor at El Camino High School.

In my spare time, I enjoy dancing, crafting, being outdoors and spending time with my family.

Alyssa Owyang, M.S. Ed., PPS

Head School Counselor

Grades 9-11, last names "Ll-Z"

Grade  12

Hello Oceana students and families! My name is Alyssa Owyang and this is my fourth year as a counselor at Oceana. I also completed my internship at Oceana in 2019. During my first year as an Oceana counselor, I also worked at Thornton High School where I counseled a small case load of students and launched/coordinated a student mentor program for juniors and seniors.

I grew up here in the beautiful Bay Area. After attending Skyline Community College, I transferred to California State University, Sacramento where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2014. I completed grad school at National University and received a  Master of Science in Educational Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in 2020. Some of the highlights of my previous experiences in education include coaching character development and team building in elementary and middle school communities, coaching and refereeing youth basketball, and coordinating an after school program for middle school students.

When I'm not working, I really enjoy spending time with my dog and loved ones, working out, doing outdoorsy activities, traveling as often as I can, watching Dubs basketball, and discovering new music and books.

Mayen Chinn, M.S. PPS

School Counselor

Grades 9-11, last names "A-Li"

excHello Oceana students and families! My name is Mayen Chinn and this is my first year as a counselor at Oceana. I’m very excited to be a part of the Oceana family and can’t wait to meet everyone.

I grew up in the Bay Area, and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else but here. I was taking classes at two community colleges: CCSF, and Skyline College. I transferred from Skyline to California State University, Monterey Bay and earned my bachelor’s in Psychology. Right after my undergrad I went to University of San Francisco and earned my Master’s and credential in school counseling in 2018. I enjoy my work where I am able to assist students with whatever they need.

When I'm not working, I really enjoy being around my community of friends, escaping from reality with a good book or TV show, playing board games (my favorite right now is Wingspan), and learning new songs on the guitar.

Liberty Cajayon, MSW

School Social Worker

Grades 9-12

Hey Sharks, my name is Liberty Cajayon and I am thrilled to be working with you all during this 2023-2024 school year! It is my first year as a school social worker here at Oceana High School and I am honored to be part of the OHS community!

I am born and raised in the Bay Area! I'm an alumni from Westmoor High School, studied culinary arts in City College of San Francisco, earned my bachelors degree in Child and Adolescent Development with a focus on youth work at San Francisco State University, and lastly graduated from California State University East Bay with my Masters in Social Work with a focus on community mental health.

I have worked with children of all ages in various settings. During my undergrad, I was an early head start teacher and worked directly with infants and toddlers. Afterwards, I worked as a crisis case manager for youth ages 0-25 in San Mateo County and a telephone counselor for 988 suicide and crisis lifeline. Last year, I interned at Terra Nova High School and George Washington Elementary as a wellness counselor. Overall, I am deeply passionate about empowering our youth and families!

I spend most of my free time alongside my loved ones, traveling, visiting new cafes, weight training/working out, watching movies, cuddling with my dog Boo, and my cat Zen.
