Concentrator Course

Dance Composition 

This is an introductory dance (Performing Arts/CTE) course for students who have little to no background or training in dance. Students can develop an awareness of correct body alignment, increase physical coordination and flexibility, balance and agility when performing simple to complex movement phrases. Students can develop a refined appreciation for different dance forms and their history including ballet, jazz, theater dance, modern, hip hop, recreational dance workout, West African, Afro Cuban and Brazilian dance, and Salsa. This course will explore various life and career skills necessary, including developing music and video editing skills, and promotes creative thought and critical thinking. 

CAPSTONE Course

Dance Production 

This is an intermediate level CTE course designed as a continuation of dance education that will allow students a deeper understanding of dance, along with developing technical accuracy, performance experience, choreographic prowess, and career skills. Students will refine their appreciation for ballet, jazz, theater dance, modern, hip hop, recreational dance workout, West African, Afro Cuban and Brazilian dance, and Salsa. Through multiple methodologies and techniques students will not only be able to physically perform advanced dance movement in performance settings, but also be able to choreograph and direct dance choreography in a variety of styles, refer to historical and cultural aspects, be able to form and defend their personal preferences, and directly relate dance to their future careers. This course will explore various life and career skills necessary and promote creative thought. Dance is communication through movement and requires higher level thinking skills to create, perform, explain, observe, compare, contrast, apply, defend, synthesize, and analyze. This course is part of the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Pathway for Performing Arts.
