Advanced Drama

This course is designed to take the student who is interested in developing their acting skills and build upon existing skills using a challenging, professional approach rooted in advanced acting

theory. In this course students will delve into deep script analysis for use in developing a cohesive storytelling vision amongst the ensemble. Through the study of advanced acting theories such as Meisner, Stanislavsky, Suzuki and others the student will develop their unique acting philosophy. The students will practically apply this philosophy through their participation in class productions with lots of room for depth such as greek tragedies like “Antigone” and “Trojan Women.” Other class productions may include “The Crucible” and “Twelfth Night,” and a one-act play festival where students can showcase their work. Students will explore elements of character relationship such as motivation and super objective. Through this advanced course of study with intensive approaches to the mental, physical and emotional technique the actor employs in portraying a role the student will explore the many different actor “tools” needed to convey a genuine and powerful performance. Students will further develop their ability to give and take constructive feedback using appropriate vocabulary and demonstrating a fundamental understanding of the process behind live performance creation.
