Concentrator Course
Fashion Design 1
Design and Construction 1 is an introductory course into Fashion Design and clothing construction. Students will be able to create sketches, designs, and construct articles of clothing. This course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the elements and principles of fashion design as applied to textiles and fashion and use them to evaluate their own designs as well as the designs of well-known designers. This course will also explore manufactured and natural made textiles and their use in fashion as well as the characteristics, production and maintenance of textiles. Students will explore the relationship between American historical events and fashion styles.
Capstone Course
Fashion Design 2
This course is the capstone course for Fashion Design and Construction and expands on the skills developed in Fashion and Design Construction 1. Students enrolled in Fashion Design 2 gain knowledge for careers in fashion design, manufacturing and merchandising. Topics include apparel and appearance, elements and principles of design; color theory; history of fashion; textiles; creating custom apparel and accessories; altering and remodeling clothing; apparel for individuals with special needs; wardrobe planning, budgeting, and selection; and apparel analysis
