Some targets

  • Support economic growth in accordance with national circumstances.
  • Obtain higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological improvement and innovation.

Promote policies that support productive activities, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization of companies.

PROGRESS OF GOAL 8 IN 2018

  • In 2016, real gross domestic product per capita grew at 1.3 % globally, less than the 1.7 % standard growth rate recorded in 2010–2016.
  • In 2016, 61% of all workers had informal employment, excluding the agricultural sector, 51% of all workers fell into this employment category.
  • In 45 countries gender inequality is still pervasive: the hourly pay of men are higher than those of women, with a pay gap of 12.5%.
  • In 2017 the global joblessness rate was 5.6%. In 2017 the global youth unemployment rate was at 13%.Youth are more easily to be unemployed than adults.

Tourism is one of the top four export earners, currently providing one in ten jobs worldwide. Decent work opportunities in tourism, (for youth, women, and policies for better diversification) can enhance tourism positive socio-economic impacts.
