BASIC WEIGHT TRAINING

Basic weight training introduces student to the foundations of strength training. We break down each day of the unit by an area of the body. A variety of exercises are chosen for the students to perform during that lesson. The name, lifting cues and safety cues are listed and discussed prior to the workout. The anatomical terms for the muscles are discussed as well. Some examples of equipment used and lesson focuses are listed below:

  • Type of Equipment used in any lesson- bodyweight, suspension trainers, dumbbells, barbells
  • Areas of the body- Chest, Back, Legs, Shoulders, Biceps/Triceps
  • Examples of exercises- Squats, Bench Press, Arm Curls, Deadlift, Overhead Press

*Students complete a Safety Workshop prior to using the weight room. It is also advised and taught to perform these exercises with light to moderate weight- NEVER sacrificing technique/form for heavier weight.
