Make-up Policy
In New York State, Physical Education is state-mandated and required by law.
ALL ABSENCES/MEDICALS MUST BE MADE UP BY THE END OF THE QUARTER DEADLINE OR THEY WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF 0 FOR THAT ABSENCE OR MEDICAL.
Now let's talk HOW they can make-up their absence or medical:
Google classroom assignments will be assigned to students for daily absences or medicals. These assignments are directly correlated to the unit being taught and information pertaining to that unit. They are 5 questions each with material provided to answer the questions. The grade received for that assignment will replace the grade of "0" in the gradebook.
What if my child has a modified medical note but cannot fully participate in PE:
If your student is injured and has a medical note, PLEASE ask the doctor to list what activities the student CAN do during Physical Education. This will alleviate them from having to make up classes or do the alternate assessments in most cases. [For Example, Student has a broken wrist. The doctor can say they can walk around the track, or can ONLY do lower body exercises in the weight room.] We will base their daily grade on their participation in that specific activity exclusive to their medical note. If the note says upper body only or lower body only or walking only, we will honor what the medical note says to full credit for PE.
