GLOBAL THEME: This term Reception children will explore the theme of sustainability. The children will discuss the importance of recycling and looking after the environment. This will help the children to build foundations of respect and care as they grow older.
During this half term, the children will explore the core text of 'Michael Recycle’ by Ellie Bethel.
Here is what Michael says about himself "I'm Michael Recycle for all that I'm worth, I'm green, and I'm keen to save planet Earth! A small town somewhere near you is in desperate need of salvation, from drowning in rubbish at the hands of its lazy and wasteful inhabitants!"
As you can see, Michael has a mission to complete, and the children will be joining him. He will help the children to understand that recycling can be fun. He is a new superhero in a sustainable world, where almost everything can be recycled or reused.
The children will explore a new core text 'Look Up' by Nathan Bryon. They will make predictions and ask questions about the main character, Rocket. She is a hilarious, science-mad chatterbox, who is going to be the greatest astronaut, star-catcher and space-traveller. Throughout the theme, the children will learn all about the solar system. They will learn interesting facts about planets, stars and meteors. In addition, they will write a fact file about their chosen planet.
