In addition, they will use a range of story starters like' Once upon a time' or 'A long time ago' to support retelling stories.

The children will recall good listener rules. They will take turns to engage in conversations with their peers and adults. They will use speaking frames to answer in full sentences, like 'I know...', 'I wonder...', 'I think...' and 'I like...because'.
Phonics
In phonics, the children will learn phase 3 sounds. Phase 3 sounds are made up of a combination of individual graphemes (sounds), digraphs, and trigraphs. In phase 3 phonics the sounds predominantly consist of digraphs. A digraph is the combination of 2 letters, which makes one sound. For example ‘ar’ or ‘ur’. A trigraph consists of 3 letters, which make one sound such as ‘igh’ or ‘air’. The children will continue to link sounds to letters, naming and sounding out the letters of the alphabet.
