Autumn Two
GLOBAL THEME: This term Reception children will explore the themes of identity and diversity through our character skill of collaboration. Children will learn to appreciate the wonderful things that exist in the world and the great things that children can do.
Literacy
Our new core book is ‘The Squirrels Who Squabble'."The Squirrels Who Squabbled" by Rachel Bright is a delightful rhyming tale that explores the importance of sharing and cooperation. Two greedy squirrels, Cyril and Bruce, find themselves in a hilarious chase for the last pine-nut of the season. Their rivalry leads them on a wild adventure, but they soon realize that working together is the only way to reach their goal. This charming story teaches young readers about the value of friendship, teamwork, and overcoming differences, making it a fun and educational read for children of all ages.

Communication & Language
Throughout the term, the children will be encouraged to use the early oracy stems to support their sentence structure. They will communicate their opinions, views, likes and dislikes. Furthermore, they learn how to children will take turns during conversations and answer questions.

Phonics
This term the children will revisit phase 2 graphemes. They will link sounds to letters and name the letters of the alphabet. In addition, the children will learn to segment and blend to decode words. This term's tricky words are: I, to, go, no, the and into.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This term, the children will ask questions to find out more about the world around them. They will use the question starters to ask about books they read, people they saw and objects they investigated.

Maths
In maths, the children will explore repeating patterns. They will use different colours, objects and shapes to create patterns. They will use a ten frame to visualise the number which is ‘less’ or ‘more’. Furthermore, they will learn how to identify which number comes before or after a given number. In addition, they will practise writing the correct numerals. The children will also begin to explore addition and subtraction through number songs and rhymes.

Expressive Art and Design
The children will experiment with colour mixing and they will create their own collages using a range of materials. They will design and make a rocket with recycled materials.

Understanding The World
The children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places and the environment. They will explore the school's surroundings and find out more about the people who work in the school and their role in the community.

Physical Development
The children will learn how to negotiate space and obstacles safely, with consideration for themselves and others. They will demonstrate strength, balance and coordination when running, jumping, dancing, hopping, skipping and climbing.
