Organization of the Board

ISAB is composed of 10-12 undergraduate international students representing a wide range of cultures, disciplines, and experiences. It is a student advisory board and leadership opportunity for LAS international students that fosters active engagement with college programs and initiatives. Board members enrich the undergraduate student community, build leadership skills, and strengthen LAS services and programs. ISAB serves as a consultative body and ongoing focus group that addresses issues pertaining to international student life in and outside the classroom.

At the beginning of each Fall semester, board members will convene for the first time, elect two co-chairs to lead the board activities, and discuss the activities they are interested in organizing for the following year. Members interested in serving as the co-chairs will give a short presentation about how they plan to serve the board and the international student community. The responsibilities of co-chairs will be decided by the board members. Specific subcommittees are formed each year based on the interests of ISAB members.

Responsibilities of Board Members

• Members will be expected to meet biweekly during the Spring and Fall semesters. A typical meeting lasts one hour.

• Members will create and update the International Student Insider's Guide for the international undergraduate student population at UIUC at the end of each Spring semester. The previous board drafts this guide and the current members update and work with ISSS to distribute the Guide to incoming international students.

• Members are responsible for maintaining and monitoring an online forum where students can submit anonymous concerns.

• Members are expected to organize a Dean’s Dinner with LAS College leadership each Spring semester and present the concerns of international students to the administration.

• Members should communicate regularly with other international undergraduate students and LAS administrators in between meetings.

• Members will hold at least one open forum per semester to discuss international undergraduate community issues and seek other venues for community input.
