Constitution Day

Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, is celebrated in India on 26 November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and to spread awareness.

Constitution Day was celebrated at IIT Jodhpur on 26 November 2019. The event began with the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution by Prof. S. R. Vadera. Commemoration function of Samvidhan Divas addressed by Hon'ble President of India, Hon'ble Vice-President of India and Hon'ble Prime Minister of India from the Parliament House was live telecasted during the event. The evening of the day began with oath taking ceremony followed by Dr. Vikas Balia delivering a guest lecture on "Discovering Democracy". Prizes were distributed to winners of quiz and essay writing competitions.

Prior to the event, as a part of the Institute's Constitution Day Celebrations 2019, an Essay Writing Competition and a Quiz Contest (organized by Quiz Club) was organized on Constitution-related themes.

Themes of essay submission included:

1. Transformative Constitutionalism

Recent Judgments such as Aadhar Case, Abolition of Adultery Law, LGBT rights or the matters that need Transformative Constitutionalism can be dealt as a subtheme


2. Constitutional Amendment/Introducing a new Article

Imagine yourself as the parliament where you have the power of Constitutional Amendment of ANY ONE Article, or introduce any (one) new Article. What would that be and why?


3. General Essay on Constitution of India

General observations or thoughts on the Constitution, fundamental duties, or any other related topic.
