Honorable chairs (which is me), fellow delegates, and the most esteemed guests,
I'm Daniel Chen, a junior from Kaohsiung American School. It is my utmost pleasure to serve as the head chair of GA1 at IISMUN I. I have been participating in MUN since the seventh grade, and IISMUN I will be the sixth conference I’ve chaired and the sixteenth I’ve attended.
When I look back on my Model UN journey, I vividly remember the first time I stood at the podium, palms sweating, heart racing, with 27 people staring directly at me. It felt like time slowed down, and I forgot everything I was going to say. But with every conference I’ve attended, I gained more confidence, improved my speaking, and grew as a delegate. Now, years later, I’m honored to stand here as your chair, supporting you on your own MUN journey.
To the delegates who are new to MUN, please don’t feel shy about speaking up during the conference. I was once that quiet delegate who hesitated to raise his placard, so I completely understand how stressful it can be. I’ll do my best to be as approachable, friendly, and supportive as possible, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Outside of MUN, you might find me sleeping or eating, as these are both things I’m super talented at. With that said, let us delve into the world of MUN together, engage in meaningful and fun debates, develop practical solutions to global issues, and most importantly, make new friends and connect with people from schools all around Taiwan. See you all in December!
Greetings Delegates!
My name is John, a freshman at the American School In Taichung, and it is my utmost honor to serve as your deputy chair for General Assembly 1 at IISMUN I. This marks my ninth conference and first time as a chair. I began my MUN journey in sixth grade, where debates were intense and fruitful. However, I only gave one speech for the entirety of the conference. As someone who started off as a shy delegate—terrified of public speaking, collaboration, and social interaction—I understand how intimidating it can be to speak in front of everyone on the podium. Because of that, I strive to create an atmosphere in the room where all delegates can safely and confidently contribute to the issue at hand.
Aside from doing MUN, I like playing sports, grinding chess, and binge watching YouTube videos. If you also have similar interests as well, feel free to chat with me about those topics—I'd love to discuss!
I look forward to seeing all of you in December for IISMUN I!
Warm Regards,
John Weng
