WIND GENERATORS

A very interesting visit was the one to the wind-power plant and turbines near Alcamo. Some expert technicians explained to us how their complex system of wind power production and distribution works. After receiving information about the general working system, state of the art technology, economic/ecologic impact and safety measures at ground level, we were taken to a proper wind turbine, set in a charming natural spot overlooking an impressive landscape. Among vineyards, hills and meadows with mountains and sea on the horizon, we “climbed” a turbine (yes, they are equipped with a staircase) to see how it works from the inside. The students listened to the explanations, took notes and made some videos to record what they had learnt and for further dissemination.
