Acceleration Programs

Foreign Language

• Ditmas has two licensed Foreign Language teachers who service the building. Students may be offered Spanish or French as an elective in their program. Students begin with the basics in the 6th grade and continue to use the language through 8th grade. Students leave Ditmas with basic knowledge of the language that help them thrive in high school.

Regents Exams

• The Algebra I Regent exam is offered to many students at Ditmas. Almost all students who take the Algebra I Regent exam pass with high scores. Ditmas prepares students thoroughly by teaching the curriculum and offering afterschool programs. Our students leave Ditmas proud and with a credit toward high school.

• The Living Environment Regent is offered to multiple classes. Our students participate in labs that are required by the state and take the exam with confidence. Almost all our students pass this Regent with high scores and gain credit for high school.

About Us

• Ditmas has a history of students getting into one of the Specialized High Schools across the city every year. We attribute this amazing achievement to their hard work and dedication. Our teachers prepare our students with high quality work and expectations.

• Ditmas JHS 62 offers programs to students that are unique and foster skills necessary in today’s world. Software Engineering and technology allows access to journalism skills as well as promoting student voice and leadership in the building.

• Yoga and our PBIS program have shown to be an extremely valuable resource for our students and assists in self-care.

• Ditmas JHS 62 is a gem in Kensington, Brooklyn that continues to strive for academic excellence, student leadership and empowerment, and success.

Ditmas is fortunate to have beautiful school grounds. We have a garden with picnic benches, a nice school yard for the students to use at lunch recess and a playground for children after school hours.

The Ditmas gymnasium has recently had a BIG makeover. Brand new floors, lighting and padding that lines the entire gym. There are boys and girls locker rooms that students use to change into their gym uniforms throughout the school year. 

The Ditmas auditorium is always busy with activity. We host Winter and Spring concerts for the talent program. We also have many assemblies with special guests for the students throughout the year. 

The halls of Ditmas are buzzing with students and staff throughout the day. Each floor has an Assistant Principal, a Dean and a School Counselor ready to assist to many needs of our students.

The Ditmas Cafeteria staff works hard to serve breakfast and lunch to over 1,000 students daily. They prepare and serve fresh fruit, vegetables, salad bar, sandwiches and hot food. 

Ditmas sells ice cream in the cafeteria a few days a week. The PTA sells specialty items throughout the year for holidays and fundraisers. This year, brand new water fountains with a filtration system and water bottle filling station were installed throughout the school building. 

The Ditmas science laboratory is located on the second floor. A lot of experiments are conducted here! Students visit the lab throughout the year to do hands on activities with their science teachers. 

Ditmas offers a wide variety of choices in our talent program. Students get to sample and choose from Band, Dance, and Art.

The Ditmas Library is open anytime for borrowing books. It is also available during the 3 lunch periods as an alternative to going outside to the school yard. Mrs. Mathis is always ready and willing to help students.
