SGIS History + Organization
ESTABLISHED 1992/1993
Set up in accordance to The Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) articles of association as of 2007.
Section II Objectives and activities: (Article 4)
SGIS facilitates sporting events and tournaments between its members through its Sports Co-ordination and Sports Committee. It does not take responsibility for organizing the events, which are planned, managed and executed by the host school. The host school takes responsibility for ensuring that events take all reasonable measures to ensure the well-being and safety of its participants and staff.
In the case of contact sports or activities where there is a heightened potential risk of serious injury, SGIS advises its member schools to establish clear protocols and procedures that outline what measures it is taking to minimise risk. These protocols and procedures should reflect best practice as defined by the international governing bodies of these sports and should be made clear to participating schools in advance of the event.
To promote inter-school sports competition at every level, the SGIS Sports Committee, composed of the member schools’ Sports or Athletic Directors, shall be established. The SGIS Sports Committee shall recommend the appointment of one of its members as the SGIS Sports Chair to the Executive Committee, based on the ‘New Sports Committee Structure’ established in 2020
NEW SPORTS COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

Sports Committee
The new SGS Sports Committee will consist of:
Chair - assigned for 1 year, stays in the committee for 1 more year
Co-chair - assigned for 1 year, to become the next chair
5 committee members - must be directors/heads of sports or responsible of the school’s competitive sports programme, the next co-chair comes from the Executive Committee.
Secretary - elected by the committee for 3 years, experienced in sports administration, skilled in IT technology, website and google applications.
