ICS provides an on-campus cafeteria for students and parents to enjoy. The goal is to provide a variety of healthy and tasty food for the ICS campus. Addis International Catering (a restaurant/catering company in Addis Ababa) provides food service for lunch as well as a snack bar window for additional service hours and food choices. You can contact Addis International Catering at ics.cafeteria@icsaddis.org or by phone extension 6354.
ICS students have a choice of buying a hot lunch from the cafeteria using the Cashless System (debit system by using the ICS ID cards as a charge card) or eating lunch from home. ICS Addis provides ID cards to all students; these ID cards are also to be used as prepaid debit cards, to purchase a hot lunch/buffet or snacks from the ICS cafeteria. The prepaid account uses an electronic debit system, which means each time a purchase is made it will reduce the prepaid account by the amount of the purchase. The student ID card has a unique bar code that is used to access the student’s ICS prepaid account by a simple swipe at the cafeteria cashier.
Elementary students must use the prepaid card system for lunch purchases from the ICS cafeteria.
Students are not allowed to order lunch at the snack bar window or have lunch delivered to them from outside.
Students are also not allowed to buy snacks at the snack window before or after school.
All of the food items prepared in the ICS cafeteria and the snack bar window are peanut-free.
All food is prepared fresh daily in the ICS kitchen. Cafeteria menus will be published weekly in the ICS Weekly, ICS website, and are posted by the cafeteria. Prices for lunch vary by lunch option and will be advertised on an annual basis. If you prefer, your child can bring his/her lunch from home in the morning when he/she arrives at school.
Getting started with the ICS prepaid account – parents and students can deposit money by visiting the ICS cashier or student store. For fastest service, bring the ICS Student ID for the initial deposit. Please make sure to collect a receipt.
Each student has an individual account; joint family accounts are available upon request by emailing prepaid.service@icsaddis.org
Account alerts – Initially all students’ prepaid account and account alerts are linked to their parent’s mobile number. This is set as “Parent 1”, the first parent listed in the ICS directory. If this is NOT the appropriate parent for account alerts, please send an email to prepaid.service@icsaddis.org and tell us which parent and which mobile number to use. Account alerts are sent when there is activity on the account (deposit or charge) and when there is a low balance (150 birr). Alerts can be customized by individual account; please see “Managing Your Prepaid Account”. Account alerts will be sent from mobile number 0930-097-395; please set this number as ICS Prepaid in your mobile address book.
For assistance with your student’s prepaid account, you can visit the IT Help desk or contact us by email at prepaid.service@icsaddis.org. For additional information regarding online account access and alert customization, please see “Managing Your Prepaid Account” on the ICS website. Parents can also request a prepaid account by sending email to prepaid.service@icsaddis.org.

Eating lunch together is an opportunity to practice polite table manners. All children are expected to stay seated their entire lunch time. This encourages them to eat and allows the food to begin digesting before they start playing.
Please discuss some of the expectations below with your child:
Show appreciation by thanking the people who are serving you in the cafeteria.
Stay seated and request permission from the teaching assistant or other supervisor to be excused.
Clean up after you finish eating.
Use quiet, inside voices when talking with your friends at lunch.
Chew and swallow your food before talking.
We do not allow the sharing of food due to food allergies.
