During the school year, we will utilize a variety of assessments to support learning for each student.
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP): Reading and Math MAP are given three times per year. This summative assessment shows performance and growth towards grade-level standards. Students in second through fifth grade take the MAP assessment.
Developmental Reading Assessment 2nd Edition (DRA2): This is a reading inventory given two to three times per year to determine reading levels and diagnose reading difficulties.
Common Writing Assessment (CWA): this assessment is given twice a year (Fall and Spring)
Assessments are ongoing tools that support instruction. At ICS, we believe that through the use of various methods of assessment, we can strengthen our teaching and guide our instruction to give our students the opportunity to be successful learners.
Report cards are issued at the end of each semester for students in the elementary school. Report cards are written documentations of your child’s development as observed and evaluated by the teachers, and reflects progress to date.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you want more information or if you do not understand the report card. If there are outstanding financial obligations or overdue or lost books, a child’s report card may be held at the end of the term until these obligations are cleared. End of the year reports will be given out on the last day of school.
While we encourage families to plan travel around school semester dates, we understand that it is not always possible to do so. If your child will be withdrawing from ICS before the end of the semester, please note the following:
Students must attend class for at least 30 school days of the semester to receive grades. Students in attendance for less than 30 school days will not receive a report card.
New students entering elementary school (EY to grade 5) may not start school less than 30 days before the last day of the school year. Exceptions are at the discretion of the principal. Students who are enrolled for at least 30 days of the quarter will receive report cards.
Report cards or progress reports are not always ready on a student's last day of school, if the student is leaving before the final day of the quarter or semester. Whenever possible, the withdrawal packets contain the student's final report, but if that is not possible, then the Registrar will send the final report by email to the parents as soon as it is available. Parents should make additional arrangements if they want hard copies of the reports, or want the reports emailed directly to the new school.
For students leaving in the last week before the end of the quarter or semester, their report card will be available the day they leave and will be included in the withdrawal packet.
For students leaving before the last week of the quarter or semester, their report card will be available on the last day of the quarter and will be sent to the parent via email.
